From land of sleep -far away

ঘোমটা পরা ঐ ছায়া

The veiled shadowy silhouette figure

ভুলালোরে ভুলালো মোর প্রাণ

Is consoling me, consoling my soul forever

ও পাড়েতে সোনার কূলে

From the other side of the Golden river

আঁধার মূলে কোন মায়া

From the dark mysterious cover

গেয়ে গেলো কাজ ভাঙ্গানো গান

Singing that my jobs are all over

দিনের শেষে

At the end of the day.

নামিয়ে মুখ চুকিয়ে সুখ

Hiding the face, ending all grace

যাবার মুখে যায় যারা

Those who are leaving this place,

ফেরার পথে ফিরেও নাহি চায়

Never looking behind for solace,

তাদের পাণে ভাঁটার টানে

With their return-tide flow

যাবোরে আজ ঘর ছাড়া

Today I'll leave home and go,

সন্ধ্যা আসে দিন যে চলে যায়

The dark evening is coming - the day is ending;

তারা কখন গেছে ঘর পাণে

Long ago have returned to their home

পাড়ে  যারা যাবার গেছে পাড়ে

Those to cross the river have crossed over

ঘরেও নহে পারেও নহে

Who is not at home yet not across the river

যে জন আছে মাঝখানে

The one who is stuck at middle

সন্ধ্যাবেলায় কে ডেকে নেয় তারে

Which day-end riddle is calling him back there

ফুলের বাহার নেইকো যাহার

The one without the beauty of flower

ফসল যাহার ফললো না

The one who failed as a grower

অশ্রু যাহার ফেলতে হাঁসি পায়

The one whose tears cause only laughter

দিনের আলো যার ফুরালো

The one whose day is no more bright

সাঁঝের আলো জ্বললো না

Whose evening failed to lit up any light

সেই বসেছে ঘাটের কিনারায়

That one is now waiting at bay with the plight

ওরে আয়

To hear them say

আমায় নিয়ে যাবি কে রে

The one to take me sailing today

দিন শেষের শেষ খেয়ায়

With the last sail of the day

Touching the tree tops with it’s last ray

ছায়া যেন ছায়ার মত যায়

Their shadows shades dark on it’s way

ডাকলে আমি ক্ষণেক থামি

I stop a moment hearing the call

হেথায় পারি ধরবে সে

Of the one who will end all

এমন নেয়ে আছে রে কোন নায়

Of the one who cause our rise and fall

I have tried to translate the song of Tagore although it is impossible for me to do justice to the original lyrics of Tagore. I have not done literal translation but while translating the theme and emotion I have also tried to keep the essence as much unchanged as possible. In 2011 I got the inspiration from  张峰  to translate Bengali works of arts for those interested in China. Since then I am trying to do those to the best of my present ability.
